Watch sizing
If you have purchased a watch with a metal bracelet, there is a good chance you will have to have one or more links removed to fit your wrist properly. This can only be done with the wearer present. We suggest you take your watch to a reputable local jeweler for sizing. Expect to pay a nominal fee (around $5-$10) for the service. Do not try to size your own watch! You may damage or scratch the watch and bracelet. We will not accept a scratched or damaged watch return. Please note: after the links are removed, keep the extra ones! Occasionally, a watch bracelet may break and it is a lot easier (and cheaper) to have it repaired with your own links than it is to order and ship new ones. Once a watch has been sized, it may not be exchanged after the initial 14 day return window.

What is Automatic Movement?
It is a watch whose mechanism is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. An automatic is a mechanical watch whose mainspring is wound as a result of the wearer's arm motion. The movement of the wrist and body causes the rotor, a metal weight attached to a winding mechanism, to pivot freely on its staff in the center of the movement. The rotor rotates back and forth in a circular motion at the slightest action of the wrist. The rotor's movement winds the mainspring, a flat coiled spring that powers mechanical watches. Rolex refers to its automatic watches as "perpetual." Automatic, self-winding and perpetual all mean the same thing: the watch winds itself. Many people appreciate the craft involved in making a mechanical automatic movement. They like the fact that this technology is hundreds of years old, involves many moving parts, and yet keeps very accurate time. (Many automatics come with glass backs which enable the wearer to view the action of the rotor and other moving parts.) They appreciate the human element involved in an automatic watch, that the movement is assembled by hand. Others like the fact that automatics run on so-called "clean," natural energy wrist power. A person's normal arm and wrist motion will keep an automatic watch properly wound. If you haven't worn an automatic in a while, it is best to wind the stopped watch before putting it on. Ten to 15 turns of the crown is usually enough to give full power to the mainspring.
What is the difference between a self-winding and a manual-winding movement?
The difference between these two movements is the way in which the watch is wound up. Manual-winding watches must be wound by hand every day, whereas self-winding watches are wound by an internal rotor which responds to wrist movements. Self-winding watches usually have a power reserve of at least 40 hours and therefore have sufficient energy reserves to maintain a stable rate when the watch is not being worn (e.g. overnight).
What is meant by automatic, chronograph, and quartz?
Automatic, or self-winding, means the watch has a self-winding mechanism which allows it to run on its own without batteries. Chronographs are the little dials (or 'clocks') which appear within the watches themselves and are always fully functional on our watches. They are normally used as stopwatch timers. Quartz means the watch runs on a battery.
Can you explain water resistance to me? From our experience, we would not recommend to swim with a watch that has a water resistance of less than 100 meters or 10 bars/atm.
Watches used to be deemed "waterproof," however, the International Organization for Standardization prohibited the use of the term waterproof. They also issued a standard for water resistant watches. Water resistant watches are made up of special gaskets which form a watertight seal. A sealant is applied as well, to help keep the water out. The material of the case is also tested to pass as water resistant. Watches are tested for water resistance in still water. It must be noted that a watch with a certain meter rating is tested for water resistance under still water, with the watch being stationary. It does not take into account if the watch can withstand the pressure that is generated by motion at that depth of water. It is important to keep this in mind when you are purchasing a water resistant watch.
If your watches water resistance is not measured in meters, you can approximate it's resistance by multiplying BARS or ATM's (atmospheres) by 10.
General Guidelines are as follows, but keep in mind that it depends on a specific watch recommendation. Check your watch manual before using near water. Always remember to make sure your crown is pushed/screwed down before immersing in water!
Water resistant - Will tolerate splashes of water or rain (usually resistant to 24-30 meters/100 feet). 50 meter/165 feet - Usable while showering, bathing, dishwashing, and swimming in shallow water (immersion without pressure). 100 meter/330 feet - Usable while swimming, general water sports and snorkeling (surface swimming). 150 meter/500 feet - Usable during swimming, general water sports and snorkeling. 200 meter/660 feet - Usable during general water sports, including free diving (skin diving without scuba gear). 300 meter/990 feet - Usable during general water sports, swimming, and scuba diving (to depths which do not require helium gas). 1000 meter/3300 feet - Usable during scuba diving to depths greater than 500 Meters - the limit of human endurance. DIVERS 150 meters/500 feet - Meets ISO standards and is suitable for scuba diving. DIVERS 200 meters/660 feet - Suitable for scuba diving but not professional deepwater diving.
